1.Which thickness of the LVP should I choose?

Wear layer thickness is a protection layer on top of LVP flooring. More foot traffic area needs thicker layer of protection, such as some business high foot traffic rooms. For residential rooms, it can user less thick of layer. However, too thin of wear layer won’t last long. Wear layer thickness vary from 3 mil to 30 mil (1 mil = 0.0254 mm or millimeter). Mostly available options are: 3, 6, 8, 12, 20, 22, 28, 30 mil.

Again, for some low quality applications such as rental rooms, people may go for 3, 6, 8 mil options.

For a basic quality of LVP flooring, 12 mil is minimum, and we recommend to go with 20mil or 22 mil. 28-30 mil is not necessary for most residential applications, but can be used for high-end business property application with a lot of foot traffic.

Wear Layer Durability (in general):

Light traffic (0-mil to 11.99-mil)

Moderate traffic (12-mil to 21.99-mil)

Heavy traffic (22-mil and above)

More thickness on the wear layer = more expensive = better protection for wear and tear and scratches.
